Collins Residential, developer of Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village, has confirmed a R95 million investment into the estate’s frail care facility; pushing boundaries in the retirement development sector. This game-changing development is set to become the biggest frail Care Centre in KwaZulu-Natal, and will not be a cost to owners. Furthermore, the construction of the Care Centre commenced as part of Phase 1 of the development in March 2017.
“The facility will consist of a Care Centre with assisted living, frail care and a community centre. Proper care is not always possible in a small facility as we find that there are limitations when it comes to employing the right staff, with the right credentials and experience, in the many facets that a healthcare facility for senior citizens requires,” says Cornel Nieuwenhuizen, Director of Totalcare, the specialist appointed to manage the Care Centre at Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village.
Nieuwenhuizen goes on to explain that “with the size of the building at just under 6000m², 112 beds and up to 100 employees, our primary focus is providing excellent nursing care using a multi-disciplinary approach.”
Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village is nestled within the already established Kindlewood Estate and will comprise of approximately 260 units. These units will offer 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom sectional title units, as well as a limited number of freestanding homes. Designed to provide the ultimate in spaciously comfortable living, residents will enjoy a community-focused estate, with unlimited use of the facilities within Kindlewood Estate. The retirement village has a strong focus on providing quality healthcare services through Totalcare, one of South Africa’s leading healthcare providers, specialising in assisted living, frail care and home-based care.
“We have seven other Totalcare operations nationwide and through extensive and resourceful research, we have gained a wealth of experience from running them. The Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village Frail Care Centre will be the premium of our tried and tested operations, as we have discovered what works best and what we should avoid,” explains Nieuwenhuizen.
The development’s Care Centre will be available exclusively to residents. Intricate design detail has been given to the facility with the incorporation of craft rooms, a kitchen, a laundromat, spacious reception and welcome area, as well as a dining and serving area that leads out onto a beautiful lookout deck. The state-of-the-art facility will have security cameras along with wholesome nutritional meals provided. The Care Centre will have qualified staff members on-site ranging from nurses and doctors, to laundry, cleaning and kitchen services, business administrators and matrons.
“We can’t express how important providing a world-class healthcare facility is to our development. Regardless of sales within this development, we will continue to proceed with the healthcare facility building plans. This only reiterates how dedicated, astute and unique our relationship with Totalcare is,” says David Cameron, Director of Cameron Property Group, developer representative for Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village.
Cameron continues, “this is a very exciting development, which we can only see growing in demand and adding value to the public. There is such a shortage of this type of product offering, especially where the healthcare facility is so carefully considered into the development plan. The prices for Mount Edgecombe Retirement Village are competitive within the market, with no transfer duty costs, making it an even more attractive buy-in.”
